Meet Our Staff

Dr. Kandi Norrell is a licensed veterinarian in the state of Illinois.  She obtained her first B.S. degree in Biology from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois and her second B.S. degree in Veterinary Medicine, as well as a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois.  As a veterinarian, she strives to demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and has a strong desire and willingness to deliver superior, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary veterinary service to the public.  Dr. Norrell has a special interest in "feline friendly" handling and medicine as well as limited restraint techniques.  Her mission is to provide clients and their pets with quality preventative medicine, on-going client education, and expert medical treatment that will enable each pet to live a quality life as a loving family member and companion.
Veterinary Assistant Raquel Carbajal joined the practice in August 2014. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science and hopes to attend veterinary school in the near future. Raquel is originally from northeastern Illinois and currently resides in Urbana with her husband and their two adopted cats, Oliver and Bogart. When not at work, she enjoys being outdoors as much as possible, volunteering at a local horse rescue, and spending time with her family and friends.
Good Friends Animal Hospital now offers case reviews (doctor to doctor consultations) by a board certified internal medicine specialist for complex medicine cases at no additional cost to the owner.

Dr. Thomas Graves - Case Consultant
Board certified internal medicine specialist and diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal medicine. He received his DVM from Cornell University in 1991. He received his masters from the University of Rochester in 1999 and his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in 2002. Dr. Graves is currently the Associate Dean for Clinical Education at Midwestern University, College of Veterinary Medicine. His professional interests are endocrinology and small animal geriatrics. Dr. Graves has conducted research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Feline Winn Foundation, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
